SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION
The Quest Advocacy Scholarship application of APAIT/SSG, Inc., is a Two Spirit, queer, and trans-centered funding for Black, Indigenous, and Students of Color currently enrolled in a vocational institution or an accredited college/university. The purpose of the Quest Advocacy Scholarship is to invest in Black, Indigenous, and Students of Color who are Two Spirit, queer, and trans as future community leaders.
The Quest Advocacy Scholarship will open August 15, 2023 and deadline is on October 27, 2023 at 11:59 PST.
From the many applicants, the Quest Advocacy Scholarship Committee will only select one (1) Graduate student, four (4) Undergrad students, and five (5) Vocational students.
The Quest Advocacy Scholarship tiers are as follows:
Masters- $5,000.00
Undergrad- $2,500.00
Vocational- $1,000.00
Please note that the Advocacy Quest Scholarship is for the Winter 2023 Session/Quarter and Spring 2024 Semesters/Quarters only.
To ensure that the Quest Advocacy Scholarship will assist students in their educational and vocational endeavors, the scholarship payments will be made out from the following:
QUALIFICATIONS
To qualify for the Quest Advocacy Scholarship, applicants must satisfy all the following:
18 years or older.
Current student (no incoming students for Winter 2023 or Spring 2024 semesters/quarters).
Enrolled full-time (depending on vocational and educational institution).
Self-identify as Two Spirit, queer, and transgender.
Be from Black, Indigenous, Pacific Islander, Latinx, and Asian communities.
Be low-income.
Residing in Los Angeles or Orange Counties (documentation required).
Undocumented applicants are welcomed to apply. Open to all majors and minors of study.
REQUIREMENTS
To apply for the Quest Advocacy Scholarship, applicants must submit and satisfy all the following:
Proof of full-time enrollment (transcripts, letter of acceptance with enrollment status with units, etc.)
Proof of low-income status (copy of Expected Family Contribution [EFC] from 2023-2023 FAFSA summary report).
1 essay, 3 questions (1500-word count maximum).
Attend interviews set by the Quest Advocacy Scholarship Committee.
Commitment to Community Service from one (1) of the following methods:
Intern at APAIT.
Elected to office with a campus student organization AND producing at least one (1) event (documentation required).
Become a board member of a local organization (documentation required).
Commitment to attend the Quest Advocacy Scholarship Banquet on Monday November 20, 2023, from 6:00pm to 8:30pm at location to be determined.
SCHOLARSHIP ESSAYS
Applicants must submit one (1) essay and (3) questions (1500-word count maximum) that discusses the following prompts:
Who Am I?
What Are My Goals While Attending College/Training?
How Will I Give Back to My Communities After Graduation?
INTERVIEWS
Applicants must attend the interview session set by the Quest Advocacy Scholarship Committee representative. Here are some points the Committee most likely will discuss with the applicant:
Introduction
Current employment plans
Area of study or interest at applicant’s selected institution
Involvement in the Black, Indigenous, and Communities of Color they are in.
Involvement in the Two Spirit, queer, and transgender communities they are in.
BANQUET
The Quest Advocacy Scholarship Banquet will be held on Monday November 20, 2023, at a to be determined location starting at 6:00pm and ending at 8:30pm PST. Recipients of the award are encouraged to dress in business attire or in their traditional heritage regalia. The recipient may also bring two (+2) additional guests to the banquet dinner. The recipient is responsible for their own transportation to and from the banquet venue. The recipient is also expected to arrive 15 minutes before the start time.
